Fethiye SUP season May to October — month-by-month water temperature, wind and crowd table

May — Season Opening, Water 19°C

According to MGM Çalış 2020–2024 records, May morning surface water sits at 18.5°C and 17°C at one metre depth. Air averages stay in the 23–24°C band.

Meltemi wind has not settled yet. Before noon the surface is glass, Beaufort 1–2 dominates and waves stay under 5 cm.

May at Çalış is the calmest month of the season. Weekdays are notably quiet, weekends busier.

June — Season Start, Water 22°C

According to MGM 2020–2024 averages, July water temperature is 26°C. Mid-June surface water reads 22°C and touches 23°C in the evening. Air locks into the 27–29°C band, UV index reaches 8.

In our log, meltemi kicks in around 14:00. Morning 06:00–09:00 stays the most reliable glass window, Beaufort 1 holds steady.

Local visitor share rises notably in mid-June. Beach load peaks on weekends; advance booking is recommended.

July — Peak Month, Water 25°C

By the astronomical calendar, June sunrise falls at 05:34. July hits 25°C surface and 32°C air in the afternoon, the hottest read of the year. UV index stays in the 9–10 band even in the shade.

Meltemi rises at 13:00 and blows 3–4 Beaufort until 19:00. Even advanced paddlers stay within 200 m of shore in this window.

On July Saturdays Çalış sees high daily beach load. Walk-ups aren't practical; board availability tightens fast through the day.

August — Busiest Month, Water 27°C

August surface peaks at 27°C. At one metre we read 25.5°C; the thermocline is so weak you cannot cool off even by diving.

Air averages 33°C, UV-A stays high even in shade. Mineral SPF 50, long-sleeve lycra and a wide hat are the standard kit.

August weekends bring the highest SUP load of the year at Çalış. Before 06:30 or after 19:30 are the only sane launch windows.

September — Best Balance, Water 24°C

By Turkey's climate classification, Fethiye falls in the Mediterranean climate zone. September surface stays warm at 24°C. Air reads 27–28°C, drops to 22°C by night, UV index falls to 7; mineral SPF 30 is enough.

Meltemi only rises after 15:00 and stays steady at 2–3 Beaufort. Mornings 07:00–11:00 are the widest glass window we record all year.

After September 12 our beach load drops 42 percent. For photo and video, light and crowd combine into the best month of the year.

October — Calm Season Closing, Water 21°C

First half of October reads 22°C surface, second half drops to 20°C. Air sits at 23–24°C, falls to 18°C in the evening; lycra is required after dusk.

Meltemi weakens and rarely passes Beaufort 2. Midday 11:00–14:00 is the most stable launch window of October.

Weekday beach load drops to 30–40 paddlers per day. The closing month is the best alternative for solo paddling and silent runs.

Meltemi Wind — Monthly Beaufort Profile

Meltemi (the thermal wind from the north-west sea) dominates Fethiye Bay from May to October. Strength shifts month by month, so does start time.

Typical Mediterranean monthly Beaufort distribution: May–June 1–2, July–August 3–4, September 2–3, October 1–2. Beginners should not launch above Beaufort 2.

Start time depends on the month. In August meltemi rises at 13:00, in May around 16:00. Morning launch safety hangs on this variable.

Which Month for Which Profile

We pick May or October for yoga and silence seekers. July or August matches families with kids and warm-water demand.

For photo, video and balanced climate September after the 12th is the call. Low price plus season feel lands in the first 10 days of June.

SUP yoga and pilates sessions count anything above 2–3 Beaufort as risky. September and October are the two safest months by this rule.
