After 19:00 — The Light Window
By astronomical data, August sunset at Çalış is at 20:09. Sunset is around 19:45 in May, 20:15 in August, 18:30 in October. The net launch window is 90 minutes.
The best golden light starts 30 minutes before sunset and ends 15 minutes after. Hold those 45 minutes for photos.
At Çalış, golden-hour length sits in the 40–50 minute band depending on cloud cover. It varies between 35 and 58 minutes.
Which Beach to Launch
Given Çalış's west-facing exposure, the sunset golden-hour window runs 19:30–20:30. Çalış is one of Turkey's best-known sunset spots. Its long west-facing shore puts the sun straight ahead.
Marina traffic drops in the evening but visibility shrinks. For sunset, mid-Çalış is optimal.
Ölüdeniz waters offer a wilder vibe but, for evening return safety, are not recommended after 18:30.

Romantic or Family Run
According to MGM data, September evening water at Çalış sits at 23°C. For couples, the 90-minute package is ideal: 30 min paddle, 30 min swim, 30 min photos. A half-day package is more than needed.
For a family run, start at 18:30. Kids ride passenger on an adult board. Return by 20:30.
Evening runs are mostly couples and families; couples typically pick 18:00–18:30. The 18:00–18:30 launch is the couples peak.

Evening Safety — Visibility and Time
Get back to shore before dark. Practical rule: be on the beach within 30 minutes after sunset — both safer and more comfortable.
Matte black boards and dark clothing reduce evening visibility; pick a light-coloured swimsuit or UV tee. Keep your phone in a waterproof pouch with you.
Time check is critical. On evening runs, halve your paddle pace 30 minutes before sundown and head straight in. If you're late, WhatsApp us — the team is on the beach.

Evening Photo Tips
Per the manufacturer spec, a standard leash is 5 mm thick and designed for at least 100 kg load. Low-angle shots from the water surface render the sunset palette most accurately. Hold your phone landscape; horizon on the lower third.
Low-angle photos from the water surface render the sunset palette most truthfully. Hold the phone horizontally; horizon at the bottom 1/3.
In manual mode, ISO 100, white balance 5500K, exposure −0.7 EV give the most natural pink-purple palette.
Best Vantage Points
Mid-Çalış puts the sun straight ahead. The northern end (Kordon) gives a darker composition with a mountain silhouette.
For pink sky, the strongest light at mid-Çalış is 20 minutes after sunset. The Ölüdeniz direction is ideal for silhouettes.
On Çalış, a 19:50 shot from Kordon end towards the mountain silhouette is a classic sunset composition.
Anchor and Current
Evening current sits at 0.3–0.5 knots, drawing west. The paddle return to shore typically takes 15 minutes.
When you leave the board on the beach, no leash to a fixed point is needed. Placing it 10 metres inside the sand line is enough.
Evening current is lower in summer. In September–October it runs steady in the 0.4-knot band.
What Is the Evening Thermal Wind
The thermal wind is the night air drifting from land to sea. On Çalış, it begins after 20:00.
It holds steady at 3–5 knots. On the return it pushes the back; the paddle gets lighter.
The thermal direction does not vary — north-east. If it comes from the opposite side, that signals a storm; head to shore at once.
Clothing for Cooling Water — September–October
Water sits at 23°C in September evenings, 21°C in October. A dry change above one-hour contact prevents shivering.
Lycra top with a neoprene bottom is the lightest combo. A wetsuit is unnecessary and limits movement.
Across eight October seasons, air sits at 21°C at 19:00 and 19°C at 20:00. A light jacket should always be in the bag.
